Moorhead Engagement Photo Shoot | Kelsey + Jordan | Kandel Photography

What can I say, Jordan and Kelsey made my job so much fun last Tuesday evening!! Gorgeous people, easy laughter, and delicious light. What more could a photographer want? Nothing!

See what I mean:  too gorgeous for words!! Thanks guys! I can’t wait for your wedding day next year. It’ll be here before we know it!

Trollwood Bluestem Center for the Arts Wedding | Jackie + Randy | Fargo Wedding Photography

WARNING  a long post ahead! Ready? Here we go!

Jackie asked me to come to the hair salon (Cloud 9) at about 9 am, as she should be done with hair by about 9:30.

Well it took a little longer than that but we had fun chatting as she got her natural curls curled tighter and pinned.

Then off to the make up chair…

I was super excited to be shooting at a new venue: the Trollwood Bluestem Center for the Arts! It’s gorgeous!! I loved this wall of stone. Lovely light and neat texture. Oh yes!
The brother of the bride saw me hanging the shoes on the wall, later I overheard him telling the bride ,”Did you see what the photographer did with your shoes??!!”
Yes, I have weird ideas. But I love the way the photos turned out!

I don’t think I’ve ever been in such a YELLOW room as the one the bride got dressed in. The walls were yellow pine, the ceiling was yellow pine, the yellow lights were bouncing off of the yellow ceiling. It was crazy! I’ll do a before and after photo later to show you how much I had to push the color in post processing to get the skin tones back. I even had my camera setting as far in the blue range as it would go – but it wasn’t enough. I’m actually surprised I could get them back, I thought I’d have to turn them all black and white. : )
I LOVE the photos of mom seeing Jackie for the first time. She was laughing and crying at the same time. Happy tears are so special.
And first look photos. Another favorite time for excited, emotional images!

See what I mean, the light was gorgeous! I just love how amazing Jackie and Randy are together. Her eyes just sparkle when she’s with him (and don’t you love his dreamy brown eyes next to her stunning blue eyes!).

Then outside to snap a few in the prairie grass. I was so thankful that it wasn’t raining, the gray skies and cold wind were not that pleasant but at least it was dry so Jackie could sit down! She’s so much fun!
Stunning! Randy you are a lucky guy.
I love the playfulness between them. People who don’t take themselves too seriously are my kind of people! ; )
Bring on the wedding party (at Concordia College)!
Tough Guys:
Hot girls:
As you could tell by the shoes and socks the colors were green and orange. So what could you do for centerpieces? Goldfish of course!! What else?!
Jackie told us a hilarious story of going to the pet store to get 24 individually packaged goldfish. You can just imagine the look she got from the poor guy. “What? Ummm we can’t do that … I think.”
But of course she got them in the end:
The fish were a hit with all the kids!
And then the ceremony time was upon us:

Woohoo! Man and wife! Time to toast in the party bus:

I loved the way the Bluestem Event Center lit up as the evening progressed. Such a pretty place for a wedding!!

Amazing food by the Ovendoor. Thank you Jackie and Randy for inviting me to eat too! By this time I was so hungry and thankful for the invitation. : )
With the sunset out came the party fun. Nerd glasses? Yes please!
Let the dancing begin!
I absolutely love the next two dance images. Probably my favorite dance photos of the night. The light is so deliciously romantic.
The dance floor was full!
It was a lovely wedding day! Maybe a little bit windy but that only gave us some fabulous veil shots. Thank you Jackie & Randy for being not only amazing clients but so open with me! I have absolutely LOVED working with both of you. Jackie your smile and laughter is a joy to be around, and Randy your quiet calm is so comfortable. You are perfect together!!

I’m a ninja – don’t tell!

I’m a photography ninja. Prowling in the grass like a lioness. I will get that elusive shot that is hiding from the amateur.

Gotcha!!

More superpower photos coming next week. ; )

Trollwood Bluestem Wedding | Jackie + Randy | Kandel Photography

A blustery wedding day but Jackie + Randy are awesome people who didn’t let it bother them one bit. I Love relaxed people!

I’m limiting myself this time to ONE teaser photo (full post coming soon!)

All I’m going to say about the upcoming post is there are live goldfish involved and you need to come back to see them!

A Friends House Moorhead | Emily + Ryan | Fargo Wedding Photography

9-10-11, probably the most requested date of 2011!  A beautiful blue sky day turned into a hot afternoon over 90 degrees! Anyone who  lives in ND / MN knows how unusual that is this time of year. Actually last night we got our first frost so it dropped 60 degrees in about 3 days. Yes weather is fickle around here. But Saturday couldn’t have been nicer. Perfect for an outdoor wedding at A Friends House in Moorhead – HWY 75.

Don’t you just love it when brides have fun things like this “Just Married” banner. LOVE.

There are so many fun buildings to use as backdrops. Unfortunately this will be the last year the old red barn is in existence. You can see the roof is sagging – so it’s going to be taken down for safety reasons next year. I just had to enjoy it one last time!!

The bride’s maids dresses were so interesting. Each one could tie the top any way she wanted. So unique!

The girls found a toad so of course they dared the bride to kiss it (Or almost kiss it)…

But the prince got away!

Back to gorgeousness…

and fun details…

Emily’s parents brought her a special tuppence from Ireland just for her wedding. How fun is that!

And I was pretty excited to learn a new ring trick this week … how to get the rings to stand up! It’s always fun to learn new secrets of the trade. ; )

Getting ready for the ceremony:

I Love this shot:

Reception time!

The groom brewed almost all the beer for the reception, plus a few specialty bottles. Now that’s something unique!

Fantastic shredded pork by Pork-N-Boys. My assistant was talking with them about their business and they said the hardest part of their job is finding single pigs since most farmers are under contract to sell x amount at a time due to government regulations! Who knew.

Everyone was really excited about the food, especially the groom! I think the Spicy Bean Sauce was the favorite…

Dancing away the sunset. So perfect!

My assistant got this amazing photo of the father/daughter dance. So sweet!

Cha-cha line! Or is it the conga line??

After sunset it’s time to PARTY in the white barn!

Ahhh. What a happy day all around!!

Now to prep for the next wedding this coming Saturday. Whew!

Weekly assignment club

This week’s assignment: Melancholy. Not the easiest of subjects to picture, it’s more like something that words can evoke in poetry.  I really wasn’t sure what to do! I even thought about it while I was falling asleep, “What can I do for this week’s assignment???? … zzzzzZZZ”  (Not that I snore, I’m sure my sister would let me know if I did!)

Anyway I woke up to drizzle and gray skies. Perfect moody day. This weather reminds me of my grandfather’s funeral. A drizzly gray day when I watched raindrops roll across the window on the way to the cemetary. Almost as if the whole world was melancholy. I wanted to capture that emotion again for this assignment so I grabbed my camera and went out to sit in the car.

ISO 400 F5.6 @ 1/40 second

Perfect.

I’ve really enjoyed having a few weeks off this month. That doesn’t happen very often so I cram all my summer fun, reading, visiting grandparents, and random projects into a few weeks! Starting next week I’ll have two back to back weddings and then things will slow down again as the weather cools off.  I HATE to say it, but now that it is September … well I just WON”T say it, maybe that will delay the inevitable. ; )
