Brooke | Senior 2011

Senior season is in full swing!! It’s been a little crazy trying to get everything edited and keep myself on top of the pile. : )

The next four are a sequence of images using the same steps. I couldn’t decide which I liked best so I thought I’d post them all. Let me know which is YOUR favorite!!

I’m out of the office until Sept. 10 (my smart blog is just scheduled to post these on a certain date!). So if you want to book your Senior Photography Session please email me some dates that work for you (dates after Sept 10 of course), and I’ll get back to you as soon as I can!!

Carl + Amanda | Engagement Session

When Carl approached me about doing their engagement session in Minneapolis I was excited to be able to say, “I’m actually going down there the weekend of the 21st!” Afterwards I wasn’t so sure I should have been so enthusiastic, lots of details like where are we going to do photos in a place I’ve never been, and the thought of driving through rush hour traffic by myself… scary. But I told myself “It’ll be an adventure!” It turned out to be one of my favorite sessions so far this year!!! Finding new locations, exploring, driving around together, I felt that it  re-energised my creativity and I got to really know the couple (one of the main reasons for an engagement shoot is to become comfortable as a team before the wedding day!). I’m so glad it worked out!

I’m really proud of myself for FINALLY figuring out how to get the sky & the couple both perfect. It’s something I’ve wanted to try for a long time and just haven’t had the right setting to try it. Usually the sun is too bright (it needs to be evening sunset), or the buildings are blocking the sky so it doesn’t matter if I use this technique. Anyway, all that just to say I’m thrilled to know I can actually DO what I’ve learned in my tutorials over the last two years! ; )

One of my favorite photos:

What a jackpot of a wall. I wish Fargo had a wall like this to use for wedding, senior, and engagement photography! But I’ll be happy with my one chance at it!

I am so surprised by these photos because in ‘real life’ the skyline seems so huge and looming, but in the photos it’s really small!! Strange.

Again, love the laughter!!

Thanks Carl + Amanda!!! It was a fantastic evening!!

One tease

One image from last Friday’s session in Minneapolis. I love the colors, contrast, and buildings reflecting behind them in the door.

We had such fun!!

More soon.  : )

Featuring Fargo | Red Hawks

Once or twice a year my family goes out to Newman Field by the Fargodome for an all American evening of Baseball! It’s such a beautiful field. The atmosphere is fantastic! Red Hawk fans, the smell of hot dogs, claps and cheers, fun games with kids between innings, prizes, and of course the 7th inning stretch singing “Take Me Out to the Ball Game.”

Evening games are the best, the sunset is spectacular which makes the game all the more fun!

We always indulge in an icy lemonade! I just love how blue the sky is at dusk (the white blotch is the spotlight in the distance).

Like I said: Beautiful!

Too bad the Red Hawks were loosing so badly that most of the pople left:

Leftovers from disappointed fans. I feel sorry for the clean up crew!

Final Score: 19 to 7 loss. Oh well. Beat them next year. It was still totally worth it just to practice with my new lens in the gorgeous sunset!

Furry Fargo Family Photos (that’s a twister for you!)

Taking photos of pets is very different than taking photos of people.  As the photographer I need to be quiet, relaxed, move slowly, and be extra patient. Working with people I need to talk, laugh, and be quicker. It’s an interesting job!

I’m always so grateful when pets have been trained! Just knowing how to sit is a huge help! And believe me, I have some horror stories of pets who know nothing and don’t corporate!!

But these guys, they were amazing.

So cute, so well behaved, and so easy!!

Be warned, cuteness ahead …

More (including the humans of the house) to come!

James | Senior 2011 | Streets of Fargo

I don’t know how it worked out, but we managed to sneak in a photoshoot between rain showers today. As we were leaving the studio it poured, and as we drove home it poured, but not while we were out on the streets of  downtown Fargo. Perfect timing!!

So here’s a peek from today’s shoot:

Love the red sneakers with the red wall!

My Dream:

I think dreams are important. They spur us to action, inspiration, and give life that sparkle of  joy over having something to aim at. Over the last year a new dream has been emerging in my heart. So last week I redesigned my inspiration board to include it. And of course I had to photograph it to share with you:

I’m drooling over this workshop by Kenny Kim .  It looks so amazing! I love the fact that it’s a small intimate group of photographers, perfect for making new friends. I always feel like I learn so much just hanging out with other photographers, and shooting together!! And ITALY, o my, I think every stone in that country is blessed with beauty. It just tugs at me to photograph it! So. Beautiful.

I’ve started saving all my coins in a puple velvet box. This will be my “Mad Money” to buy souvenirs, eat out, and of course sample some gelato. The rest of the tuition … well  I’m hoping by 2012 I can live my dream!

What are you dreaming about??

Licorice | creativity | color

All my life I’ve loved licorice. This is mostly due to  the introduction of  “Drop” (a very salty licorice candy from northern Europe) at a very young age. This is an important fact, because drop is definitely an acquired taste. Most of my friends spit it out the moment I drop one on their tongue, usually making hilarious faces, which is why I gave it to them in the first place. Anyway … because Drop is hard to find here in the USA (read almost impossible!) I content myself with mild licorice candies. One of my favorite varieties are these tiny, candy coated, colorful sweets. But I never know how to store them.

Until now:

Pretty sweet huh!

I now have a pretty bottle of candy in my studio. I love the color. I love the taste. I love the playfulness.

So when you stop by the studio, feel free to sample!
